Day 3 - Champex-Lac to Verbier
We both woke up feeling more sore than we’ve felt in a long time. For me, maybe ever? My quads and calves burned and it hurt to sit or move, so hiking was rough.
It took us a while to warm up, and it was a tough start of the day because the first 5 miles were all downhill, and the first mile down was especially steep.
Luckily, after that initial steep downhill we made it into a beautiful place to walk along small towns with little farms.
There were all sorts of interesting things along the way, and I loved this tunnel.
We could see the next town where we would stop for lunch.
There were a lot of bees in the area, and this bee box made us laugh.
A lot of towns along the way have these fountains with great drinking water so that we could carry less and refill as we hiked.
We went to the only restaurant open in Sembrancher that we could find, Café-Restaurant-Pizzeria Les Trois Dranses. We both had rissotos of the day and they were great!
We drank a lot of sparking water on this trip, and this was one we really enjoyed.
As we were walking to the gondola in Val de Bagnes we saw this. Being so sore, we were really wishing we could find a hot tub!
One amazing this about this route is that you can choose to take gondolas in a number of different places. I was more that happy to skip the remaining uphill and take the gondola! It started raining as we were riding, so it made it all the better not to be hiking up the steep hill into Verbier.
We got a free upgrade at our hotel, Hotel Les Chamois, and the room we had was incredible! It had a wonderful shower and plenty of room to dry all the clothes we hand washed that night.
We could barely walk as we explored the town because we were still so sore. We slowly moved around and had a drink before our dinner restaurant opened.
I loved all the flowers in the traffic circles, especially the dahlias.
We had a fantastic dinner at L’Ecurie Restaurant and tried what became one of our favorite new wine varietals, Humagne Rouge.
